About Roanoke Wildlife Rescue

Roanoke Wildlife Rescue is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization authorized by the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources. This authorization allows us to treat and care for injured, orphaned, diseased, and displaced wild mammals and reptiles, and to release healthy animals back into suitable habitats.

Serving the Roanoke Valley and Southwestern Virginia since 1988, we provide specialized care and housing for mammals classified as Rabies Vector Species—such as raccoons, foxes, skunks, groundhogs, and bats—as well as other native wildlife, including opossums, squirrels, rabbits, turtles, and snakes.

While we accept animals at our Center free of charge for rescuers, donations are greatly appreciated as we do not receive state funding for our services. We are actively seeking grants and corporate sponsors to help support our mission.

Our team includes licensed rehabilitators, volunteers, and local veterinarians who provide on-call services.  We are always looking for volunteers to assist with animal care and have non-animal-related positions available, such as newsletter editor, fundraising, and marketing, all performed on a volunteer basis without salaries.
